SUMMARY
OF RESULTS FROM THE CODENET MS PREPARATION WORKSHOP, June 2000
During June 16th-20th all the CODENET Young Visiting
researchers and several others met at Blagnac for a workshop
devoted to co-ordinating our results and particularly the plans for
publishing them. The following is a synthesis of these plans, in
terms of brief notes on each ms. planned. The totality is rather
impressive, although achieving them will require a large effort
(outside readers should bear in mind that most of these mss. are at
the "in prep." stage and plans will inevitably
change). For each ms. in the abstract volume I have given:
The working title
Authors - but do not assume this is finalised
Manuscript status: notes on how near this is to being a publication
Work done in Blagnac: notes on what work was actually done at the
workshop.
Publication plan: my understanding of your plans and timescale for
publication. In this context "september" refers to the
CODENET Bremen meeting.
The ms are organised here into the following informal categories
PHYLOGENY
Syntheses
Comparative approaches to Haptophyte phylogeny; pigment and lipid
composition and cell ultrastructure.
Kees van Lenning, Hanno Kinkel, Ian Probert, Alberto Saez, Linda Medlin, Jeremy
Young, Paul R. Bown, Chantal Billard
Manuscript status: most research completed, detailed synthesis of
pigment results produced.
Work done in Blagnac: extended discussions of results; comparison of
pigment results against DNA phylogeny; comparison DNA results vs.
stratophenetic data; extended discussion of publication plans
Publication plan: This is an area which integrates results from
numerous research tasks with lots of interactions. After discussion
we decided that we should explore the option of publishing relevant
results and discussions together as set of related papers in on
journal issue or as special issue of a multidisciplinary oceanography
journal (e.g. Limnology Oceanography, Journal of Marine Systems).
This should include
A. Results on particular topics
- Pigments (KvL)
- Biomarkers (HK)
- Cytology (IP, CB)
- Isotope fractionation (PZ)
- Molecular genetic (AS - basic results
only)
- Stratophenetic data (JRY, PRB)
b Syntheses
- Cladistic analysis
- Discussion vs. classical taxonomy (JRY, IP,
KvL, CB, LM)
- Molecular clock calibration (AS, LM, JRY,
PRB)

for discussion/use in syntheses (b) JRY to present detailed options
for co-ordinated publication.
