INA13

INA13 is rapidly approaching and will be held in Yamagata, Japan, the first time that an INA meeting will be held in Asia. As usual, I'm looking forward to catching up with old friends, meeting new people, and learning more about nannofossil research. Additionally, this meeting’s venue will allow most of us to experience a new and different culture, to try different foods, and to experience the differences between cold and warm sake, which I am looking forward to doing!

While at the meeting, lets all take a moment to thank Ric Jordan and his staff for handling the myriad small (and large) details that have cropped up over the past few months. I know (from personal experience - ask me about Mr. None!) that some of them have been unusual, but Ric took time out of his busy schedule to see that they were fixed. I would especially like to thank Denise Kulhanek for her emails on how to get train tickets, language tips, and general advice about Japan. I know I've benefited from her advice!

However, business needs to be combined with pleasure. With this in mind, please take a moment to scan the Treasurer's report and financial summary at the end of this document; discussion of finances is always part of the biannual business meeting held at INA. Additionally, if you have any questions/concerns regarding INA policy or JNR, please come prepared to discuss them.

So, here's wishing everyone safe travel, and I hope to see you in shortly in Yamagata, Japan. Yokoso!

J. Self-Trail

Upcoming Meeting

The 7th International Conference on Asian Marine Geology (ICAMG-7) to be held in Goa, India on 11 - 14 October, 2011.
Date: 11 - 14 October, 2011,
Location: National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR), Goa, INDIA

Call for Sessions in the 7th International Conference on Asian Marine Geology (ICAMG-7)
Deadline of session proposal: 31 January 2011
Deadline of abstract submission: 31 July 2011
Webpage: http://icamg7.nio.org
If you have any questions, please contact the conference secretariat: Mr.V Ramaswamy

The 7th International Conference on Asian Marine Geology (ICAMG) will be held from 11 to 14 October 2011 in Goa, India. The first ICAMG was held in Shanghai, China in 1988. So far six ICAMGs have been held in various cities of Asia to promote exchange of ideas and new information on Asian Marine Geology. This is the first ICAMG conference in South Asia.

All previous ICAMG's have provided excellent good opportunities for scientists to meet and exchange ideas and share information and to plan for new collaborations. We invite you to participate in the 7th ICAMG conference and present your ideas to a global audience. We sincerely hope that this conference will be a catalyst that accelerates collaboration in the study of Asian marine geology

Secretary/Treasurer's Report: August 2010

Please note that the year after your name on the mailing label is the year through which your dues are paid. For example, "2010" means that your dues will expire on December 31, 2010.

We have discontinued the use of a local credit card facility and now accept payment primarily online via the INA website. You can pay through PayPal at the INA Web site (www.nhm.ac.uk/hosted_sites.ina/ina/inapayment.htm) - you do not need a PayPal account yourself to do this but can pay by credit card.

We can also accept dues payment by direct wire transfer to the INA bank account (please contact me for the necessary information), check, international postal money order, or UNESCO coupons. If you choose to pay by check, please make your dues payment to "International Nannoplankton Association". PLEASE DO NOT MAKE YOUR CHECKS PAYABLE TO ME PERSONALLY.

There are only about 10 copies available of A Guide to Extant Coccolithophore Taxonomy. The INA sold out of its stock, and we exhausted the private supply of Markus Geisen. Now we are selling the private supply of Jeremy Young, which he generously donated to the INA. I don't know if/when these might be updated/reprinted, so if you'd like one, don't procrastinate!! These can be purchased at http://www.nhm.ac.uk/hosted_sites/ina/meetings/coccoguide.htm. Other publications are available as well, so have a look at the INA Web site if your library needs expansion.

Woody Wise and gang updated the INA CD-ROM (Version 2008.9.4, aka Version 4). It includes the same NannoWare databases with the addition of a "Cenozoic Antarctic DiatomWare" database (Alpha version, dated 2007, on a separate disk). Only one or two copies of the newest version remain, and I don't know when additional ones might become available. However, we do have a few more copies of the older versions in stock. Please contact me for availability and pricing.

Beginning with Volume 31, Issue 1, the Journal of Nannoplankton Research (JNR) is being printed by The Sheridan Press in the USA. Jackie encountered many problems with Cambridge University Press over the years, so we made the decision to find a new printer. The Sheridan Press has very competitive rates and excellent customer service; I'm hoping that this change will save us some money as well.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you move, please send your new address to me as soon as possible so your copy of the JNR does not get lost in the mail.

Stacia A. Spaulding, Ph.D.
