This paper reviews the species within the coccolithophorid genus Syracosphaera, and formally describes those species which are presently unnamed. All taxa are illustrated here as scanning electron micrographs, and are separated at the species level solely by coccolith morphology. It is hoped that this monographic approach will allow future researchers to correctly identify this problematic group and to improve our knowledge of their distribution and ecology.
