CODENET - Mid Term Review meeting - Program for Saturday 29th Jan
Background explanation
On the Saturday before the Mid Term Review (sunday 30th) we have a general workshop scheduled. The main purposes of this workshop should be
1. To improve co-ordination of our science over the next year - it is my impression that as we move through the project effective integration of the different research strands is increasingly possible and valuable (by contrast even a year ago most projects were starting out and it was still difficult to see exactly how they should interact).
2. To plan synthesis activities
- Do we have an informal Blagnac workshop in early summer? - the idea of a gathering to synthesise results, write/outline papers (and maybe help do repairs on the chateau after the storms?) has been suggested.
- Do we need any specialised workshops?
- How should we organise our contributions to the Bremen INA meeting?
- Do we want to start plan for an edited volume of results.
- Should we encourage/sponsor a coccolithophorid biology meeting?
3. To prepare ourselves for the mid term review.
4. To discuss opportunities for follow-up projects (we can also continue this in the training workshop on Monday).
Obviously these are inter-related objectives and I think the best way to achieve them will be to start off with 10-15minutes per team (including Bremen) outlining recent research (no need any more to explain the basics of what you are doing or why but an outline of actual recent activities and results would be useful) and plans/objectives/needs for the next year or so. These talks should be informal and can be given by the post docs and/or the senior scientists but should cover the whole of the team's work - hence I am emailing this globally. The talks should not need extensive preparation.
Then we will discuss the specific topics above.
Finally, latter part of the afternoon, we should have an extended session on the CODENET 2 cruise results. Please be sure to bring all your data, ideally as overheads.
