Sphenolithus abies |

Sphenolihs are an extinct group of Tertiary nannoliths (Palaeocene to Pliocene). They consist of a few cycles of elements which are superposed but radiate from a common origin (in the static image the for cycles are gfiven different colours). The c-axes run parallel to the element length. In well preserved spoecimens each crystal appears as three laths giving a reticulate surface to the nannolith.
