  1. ANNOUNCEMENT / INVITATION

    We take pleasure in inviting you to the 8th International Nannoplankton Association Conference which will be held in Bremen, Germany, from September 11 - 15, 2000, as well as to the pre/post-conference field trips.

    This conference offers you the opportunity to present the results of your studies on all aspects of nannoplankton research, including both palaeontological and biological aspects, to an international audience.

  4. REGISTRATION

    Registration fee 150 DEM (76.70 EUR) per person. Reduced rate 75 DEM (38.35 EUR) for students and persons in need of assistance. Registration fee will cover Conference Programme and Abstract Volume, Ice Breaker Reception, coffee breaks.

    PAYMENT
    Payments for registration / field trips and for accommodation must be made separately. Accommodation is to be paid directly to the hotel or youth hostel.

    Deadline for payment of conference / field trip fees:
    January 31, 2000, after which date the fee increases to 180 DEM / 90 DEM (92 EUR / 46 EUR).
    The deadline for field trip registrations also is January 31, 2000.

    Payment must be in German Marks (DEM/EUR).

    • by credit card (please note: this requires a surcharge)

    Cancellations prior to July 31st, 2000 will receive a reimbursement of 80% of the amount paid; all refunding demands will be processed after the conference.


  5. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

    According to INA regulations, certain conditions have to be met to allow you to qualify for sponsorship:

    1. you must be a member of INA
    2. you must present a paper or poster at the conference
    3. travel and the conference fee together should account for more than half of your monthly income

    Application forms (e-mail or paper versions) will be provided by the INA Membership Secretary/Treasurer Stacia Spaulding, 345 Meadowbrook Farm Road; Proctorsville; Vermont 05153 USA, e-mail: jrice@ludl.tds.net.

    Application for sponsorship should be made six months in advance of the conference.
    Decisions on the assignment of funds and the level of sponsorship will be made by the INA Committee.

    The INA8 Organising Committee is exploring more ways of helping to reduce expenses for participants in need of assistance.
    Participants from Asian countries and young scientists from other countries may apply for funds. Applicants should submit a calculation of their costs and the amount of possible self-financing along with their abstract by January 31, 2000. A committee will make decisions in March 2000.

  9. PUBLICATIONS

    The Conference Proceedings will be published in a special issue of the "Courier Forschungsinstitut Senckenberg".
    Manuscripts shall be of 30 pages maximum (incl. figures and tables), to be submitted by December 15, 2000.

    1. PRE-CONFERENCE FIELD TRIP:

      Marsh Settlement, Dikes and Siliciclastic Tidal Flats, September 10, 2000

      guided by Prof. B.W. Flemming (Senckenberg-Institut, Wilhelmshaven), Prof. K.-E. Behre (Niedersächsisches Institut für historische Küstenforschung)

      Contents: typical north-west German coastal landscape

      • visit to an ancient fenland settlement excavation site (Rodenkirchen)
      • floating peat bog (Sehestedt)
      • storm surge history; dike construction site; hike into mud-flats; salt-marsh cross-section; storm surge deposits (Dangast)

      Costs: 40 DEM (20.40 EUR)
      Participants: max. 30
      Equipment: sports sneakers, towel, protective clothing against wind and rain.

    2. POST-CONFERENCE FIELD TRIP:

      Peat Bog Landscape, September 16, 2000

      Contents: guided tour to a typical peat bog landscape in N-Germany

      • ride on a peat train and walk through the boggy landscape (history of North German peat bog development, draining, and re-cultivation)
      • visit to a prehistoric barrow

      Costs: 50 DEM (25.60 EUR), including 2 light meals (typical of the region)
      Participants: max. 45
      Equipment: nothing special required.


  11. REGISTRATION AND ACCOMMODATION FORM

    Please register as soon as possible. Organisation will be facilitated when we have a good idea of the number of people that attend the conference.

    SECOND AND THIRD CIRCULARS

    This Second Circular is being mailed to all those who responded to the First Circular questionnaire, others who have expressed an interest, and will be made available to all members of INA. The Third Circular will be sent only to those who have returned the registration forms contained in the Second Circular along with the required fees by the deadline of January 31, 2000.
