Ali El-Mehaghag:
Santonian to Maastrichtian calcareous nannofossil zonation in Libyian sequences
(Poster)

Surface and subsurface Santonian to Maastrichtian sequences encountered in various parts of Libya have been analysed for their calcareous nannofossil content. During this process, a large number of calcareous nannofossil taxa have been recorded, illustrated and reviewed for their stratigraphic range significance.

Based on the first and/or last occurrences of calcareous nannofossil markers for the standard zonation schemes, the following biostratigraphic (sub)zones have been recognised: Reinhardtites anthophorus CC17, Lucianorhabdus cayeuxii CC16, Calculites obscurus CC17, Aspidolithus parcus CC18, Quadrum trifidum CC22, Tranolithus phacelosus CC23, Reinhardtites levies CC24, Arkhangelskiella cymbiformis CC25, Nephrolithus frequens CC26 and Micula prinsii CC26b.

The observation of the Calculites ovalis CC19, Ceratolithoides aculeus CC20 and Quadrum sissinghii CC21 biozones has not been achieved due to the rarity of representative fossils.
