Andrew V. Matveyev:
Palaeogeographic disturbance of index-species has a great significance for wide stratigraphic correlation. Latitude change of the Upper Maastrichtian index-species, Micula murus and Nephrolithus frequens is well-known. The purpose of this research was to investigate sections in Egypt, the Crimea and the Donetsk Basin and to consider the literature data of the Egyptian and the Caucas sections. From these studies, we can draw the conclusion that a latitude biozonation for the Lower Maastrichtian is possible. Besides the Lithraphidites quadratus Biozone, spread in the S Tethys, we propose to extract the Markalius nielseniae Biozone for northern areas.
